DESCRIPTION: A seminar hosted by the Pinelands Research Institute\n\nDate: March 10th, 2026 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm\nLocation: Pinelands Alliance, 17 Pemberton Road, Southampton, NJ 08088\n\nJoin Scott Stanford, Ph.D., for a presentation about the geologic history of the Pine Barrens! The Pine Barrens landscape that we see today is the product of sea-level change, regional river shifts, and climate change over the past 20 million years. This talk will describe the rise of sea level that deposited the Cohansey Formation—the foundation of the Pine Barrens—and the subsequent falls of sea level and river shifts that led to the present-day topographic mosaic of valleys and uplands and geologic mosaic of stream, wetland, and estuarine deposits. We’ll also look at some distinctive landforms and sedimentary features formed during periods of glacial climate in the past 200,000 years.\n\nScott Stanford was a geologist and research scientist at the New Jersey Geological Survey for 40 years, where he mapped and studied surficial deposits and Coastal Plain formations, including in the Pine Barrens. He has a Ph.D. in geology from Rutgers University.\nThis presentation is free and open to the public! RSVP below.\n\nFor details, click here: https://engage.pinelandsalliance.org/priseminar1
