Goal

Full Color - Horizontal    2026 logo Save Barnegat Bay

As nonprofits focused on protecting the Pinelands, Barnegat Bay, and the surrounding communities, we strongly oppose the construction of large data centers.

This new generation of Data Centers has extremely large water and energy needs, which place a burden on host communities. They can also have devastating impacts to wildlife and the environment. We must protect people and the environment from data centers.

Other towns have banned data centers. Now Manchester has the only lots in the Pinelands (block 62: lots 30 and 31.01) zoned for data centers.

Manchester Data Center Detailed Map 2026

Sign the Petition: No Data Centers in Manchester

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Manchester Township, the Pinelands, and New Jersey's natural resources, respectfully urge the Manchester Township Council to:

        1. repeal the redevelopment plan for Block 62, Lots 30 and 31.01 to remove “data center” as a permitted use, and;
        2. adopt an ordinance, as ~40+ other NJ municipalities have already done, to ban data centers from the entire municipality.

Unprecedented Energy and Water Demands

A new generation of hyperscale data centers is being constructed across the country that requires enormous amounts of electricity and water.

Manchester already experiences frequent blackouts, and residents have been grappling with rising electricity prices driven by data center demand. Water levels have already been dropping and Manchester residents are now subject to water restrictions. Bringing these water-and energy-hungry data centers to our own backyards will only exacerbate these issues.

Protect Residents from Noise Pollution

Data centers also have major impacts on host communities that are subjected to the constant noise and pollution of hastily built data centers, as residents of the city of Vineland have already been experiencing.

For residents, this can mean a diminished quality of life. For wildlife, these impacts could be more profound, especially for nocturnal species like the Pine Barrens tree frog and the Barred owl that rely on sound.

Time to be Proactive, Not Reactive

New York recently became the first state in the nation to adopt a statewide moratorium on new hyperscale data centers. New Jersey has not—despite the fact that 65% of New Jerseyans support a ban on new data centers until our energy crisis is addressed. With nothing but “guardrails” from the state government, it is clear that municipalities must take steps to protect themselves.

Over 40 towns across New Jersey have passed ordinances to ban data centers this year, and many more are discussing them. Manchester Township Council must do the same.

Message

This petition makes the following requests:

We urge the Manchester Township Council to:

1. Repeal the redevelopment plan for Block 62, Lots 30 and 31.01 to remove “data center” as a permitted use

2. Adopt an ordinance, as ~40+ other NJ municipalities have already done, to ban data centers from the entire municipality.

Save our local environment. These centers bring too much noise. As proven in other locations in the US, they make too much noise and should be built far from residential areas. I’m not even sure they should be in commercial areas unless the noise can be adjusted.

The Pine Barrens require protection, and the people of Manchester deserve better than this. I live nearby, am affected by this watershed, and greatly care about this region. I care about my friends and family and many others I don't know who are in Manchester and will be directly impacted by a data center in their living space, as well as the floral and fauna. Our pine barrens is a treasure and a data center will not only affect its property space, but the spaces that surround it. We DON'T need this.

I think this is a very bad idea for the PINE BARRENS. and elsewhere. Our towns don't want it dont need it and definitely can't be losing water or land to these horrible data centers. They use too much resources that our STATE needs. Water is getting scarce in the Pine Warren's. They need what ever they can keep to keep our families with water and reduced electricity problems. • Anne Cahalane

I don't want date centers in our state and definitely not in our town. They use up a lot of energy and water, this demand would further increase our already astronomical utility costs. It would also create a horrible noise 24/7 and increase traffic to the area. Actually, until ocean cty can make the roads safe, we should have a moratorium on all new building.

Data centers cause pollution, they exhaust resources, and they're an eyesore. We do not need data centers in New Jersey, not do we want them. The pinelands are a vital resource. Our aquafers, wildlife, flora, and residents deserve not to be disrupted and/or destroyed by these environmentally harmful data centers. The noise pollution is going to cause residents and wildlife immense distress, the water use and heat kickoff will significantly damage the surrounding area and use up increasingly scarce resources, etc. The Pinelands are too important for life on this planet, not an exaggeration, to give them up for the possibility of a profit from a contentious and currently unprofitable industry.

This state and area are often at drought risk and can not sustain the resources needed for these giant projects. Data Centers have no place in any community, let alone a protected natural resource like the NJ Pinelands. These centers are dangerous and will deplete our electricity and ruin our water supply. It has already happened in Cheyenne, Wyoming with a rare bacteria discovered the the wastewater system reported by Breitbart. Not only that, these centers are noise pollution & may eventually cause cancer. Main Street media and the I’ll informed local townships across the country and not being transparent about their agreements with these big corporations & the promise of lucrative contracts. Data centers on those lots would destroy the lives of those living at the Renaissance, as well as surrounding communities. These communities house seniors, many of which already suffer from medical conditions and would suffer from the noise, water compromise, pollution from generators and other stresses. This is way too close and completely UNacceptable. There should be ZERO data centers in Manchester, NJ.

  • Diane Kelly

A data center is not necessary, as AI is not necessary. AI energy consumption is too great. And I understand the data center will have high water consumption. The Township already has high consumption and there is still residential building in progress. So no, no data center.

I'm a senior citizen, early 70's age group and I don't want these Data Centers in Whiting/Manchester... Aside from preserving the land in the Pine Barrens, not only wildlife will be affected but there is no information on how we are going to get our drinking water...Is the water going to be safe enough to drink, will people have enough water to go around and are our water bills going to skyrocket....I came here from New York with the hopes of living out my retirement in a safe place....With all the tearing down of buildings, all the empty stores in Whiting, NJ I feel like I'm back to living the ghetto of New York.... Please don't let NJ become the Slum Capital of the world..

Furthermore h they are an unnecessary blight on the environment. I strongly urge the township’s Mayor and officials to think clearly and not with their pockets and refuse to allow this in our township New York has led the way in not allowing these massive centers. Let New Jersey stand up and follow.

These Data Centers are horrific for our environment and for the people who live nearby. • Ronald Nober

The Pinelands and Pine Barrens need protection. We don't know the long-term environmental dangers data centers pose and the Pines should not be impacted no matter what.

  • Gail Wright

The Pine Barrens are protected due to rare animal and plant life. We sit on over 17 trillion gallons of fresh clean water. NJ is over crowded to begin with, we are regularly suffering from drought conditions. There are 17 trillion reasons to ban these data centers. NO, NO, NO, NO!!!

  • Alice Weber

Data centers will pollute the vital pinelands and the aquafer it sits on!! Not to mention increase our electric and water bills. The people of New Jersey cannot afford this on either account!

  • Anne Cahalane

I don't want date centers in our state and definitely not in our town. They use up a lot of energy and water, this demand would further increase our already astronomical utility costs. • Kevin Klebacher

There is no justification for having a data center of any size right next to such a large community. Renaissance and Holly Oaks would both be heavily affected by the noise pollution

  • Amy Varela

Data centers cause pollution, they exhaust resources, and they're an eyesore. We do not need data centers in New Jersey, not do we want them. The only people who want them are those who stand to profit from them. Do not allow data centers in Manchester Township, anywhere else in Ocean County, or in New Jersey. We have enough pollution in the state already.

  • Linda Trebino

    Resident of Renaissance

  • Cynthia Marks

I do NOT want a data center built in the Pinelands!

  • Susan Smith

The pinelands are a vital resource. Our aquafers, wildlife, flora, and residents deserve not to be disrupted and/or destroyed by these environmentally harmful data centers. The noise pollution is going to cause residents and wildlife immense distress, the water use and heat kickoff will significantly damage the surrounding area and use up increasingly scarce resources, etc. The Pinelands are too important for life on this planet, not an exaggeration, to give them up for the possibility of a profit from a contentious and currently unprofitable industry.

  • Beth Sisk

I object to the zoning of these properties for use as a data center. These projects use enormous amounts of energy and water. This state and area are often at drought risk and can not sustain the resources needed for these giant projects. In addition, data centers create tremendous amount of pollution and noise leading to detrimental effects for residents. The Pinelands suffer wildfires every summer and the water is needed to fight fires and for resident’s use. Keep the data centers out of this area.

So many reasons. We need to protect the remaining Pinelands and Barnegat Bay Water Shed from unnecessary development that will negatively impact our water supply and energy consumption…not to mention the obnoxious noise pollution generated by these data centers.

  • Maureen Rust

Data Centers have no place in any community, let alone a protected natural resource like the NJ Pinelands. These centers are dangerous and will deplete our electricity and ruin our water supply. It has already happened in Cheyenne, Wyoming with a rare bacteria discovered the the wastewater system reported by Breitbart. Not only that, these centers are noise pollution & may eventually cause cancer. Main Street media and the I’ll informed local townships across the country and not being transparent about their agreements with these big corporations & the promise of lucrative contracts. They don’t give a hoot about the health and welfare of the community residents. Wake up and realize these centers are NOT in the best interest of our health or environment.
